Volumes have been set forth on this issue, and the controversy and face-offs about where the "hot" slot games are positioned in the casino are still rampant – more than sixty yrs after slots were first added to the gaming floor in gambling houses.
The traditional rule is that the better one armed bandits were installed just inside the entrance of the casino; so that everyone passing by would be able to see jackpot winners … be drawn to come into the casino and play. Our standpoint is that this is not so anymore.
Just about all of the large casinos these days are magnificent complexes … it’s no longer possible to see inside from the sidewalk, so there is no longer a reason to put the ‘loose’ slot machines near to any of the doors.
Another traditional rule is that loose slots are located on the major aisles in the casinos, again so that more potential players could see winning jackpots and be energized to play. Notably however, we find that this also is no longer a universal rule.
What casinos found over the years is that people walking down the busy aisles were frequently on the way to somewhere else. If they played slot games at all, they would simply put in their loose change because they happened to be walking by. Win or lose, they would very often not stop to keep playing. And the very last thing a casino wants is for someone to win a jackpot by playing only a few coins and then not stay to put it all back in!
In recent times, casinos are constantly changing their philosophy about where to place the loose slot games.
